Tissue Paper 101: Everything You Need and its Types

Tissue Paper

A thin piece of paper, or light crêpe paper, is known as tissue. On a paper machine, recycled paper pulp may be converted into tissue. Given its many functions, including as packing material, face tissues, sanitary tissue paper, and paper towels, several types of tissue are created to better suit each of these needs. Tissue paper is widely used in industrialised countries, with 6 million tonnes used in Europe and 21 million tonnes in North America. Urbanisation is driving this use up. Due to this, the sector has frequently been investigated for deforestation. Tissue paper is currently utilising more recycled fibres thanks to more businesses. Absorbency, base weight, thickness, bulk (specific volume), brightness, stretch, appearance, and comfort are the main characteristics of tissues.

According to Coherent Market Insights, The global tissue paper market was pegged at 79.0 Billion tons in 2022 and is expected to exhibit a CAGR of 6.80% in terms of volume over the forecast period (2023-2030), and is expected to reach 133.7 Billion tons by 2030.

Applications

Hygienic tissue paper

Napkins, bathroom tissue, housekeeping towels and facial tissue (paper handkerchiefs) are all frequent personal uses for hygienic tissue paper.

Facial tissues

Facial tissue, often known as paper handkerchiefs, is a category of disposable, soft, absorbent paper that can be used on the face. Although it may also apply to other forms of face tissues like napkins and wipes, the phrase is typically used to describe the type of facial tissue, typically marketed in boxes, that is intended to ease the evacuation of nasal mucus.

Paper towels

Tissue paper is used most frequently in the consumer goods industry for paper towels. Typically, the base weight of this kind of paper is between 20 and 24 g/m2. These paper towels are typically two-ply. This type of tissue can be produced using a combination of recycled and chemical pulp, or it can be generated entirely from chemical pulp. To increase strength, chemical pulp with long fibres is typically used.

Wrapping tissue

A thin, transparent tissue paper known as "wrapping tissue" is used to cushion fragile objects and wrap/pack a variety of things. Custom-printed wrapping paper is quickly gaining popularity among small-scale retailers. Online retailers provide a variety of on-demand custom printed wrapping paper.

Toilet paper

Since the turn of the 20th century, toilet paper has been offered in rolls. Currently, Western countries uses more than 20 billion rolls of toilet paper annually.

Table napkins

Tissue paper may be used to make tablecloths. Depending on the intended application and current trends, they are produced from one to four plies and come in a range of grades, sizes, folds, colours, and patterns. Depending on quality, raw material composition ranges widely from deinked to chemical pulp.
